Bowling Green introduces new Afghan Community Navigator
BOWLING GREEN, Ky – The city of Bowling Green’s Neighborhood and Community Services recently hired Nasir Ahmad as the new “Afghan Community Navigator” to help newly relocated Afghan refugees adjust to a new way of life.
Ahmad had previously worked for the United States and Afghanistan governments by way of the U.S. Embassy while living in Afghanistan.
Last year when violence in the country had come to a head, hundreds of Afghans including Ahmad had been evacuated from the country with around 400 ending up here in Bowling Green.
Ahmad was hired in late May but was just introduced to the community last week and told us that his position entails many things such as helping new Afghan residents learn English and translate when needed.
Ahmad said most important things to him are to help the new residents learn the language and find employment.
