Ukrainian man and Glasgow Police donate bulletproof vests to Ukraine
GLASGOW, Ky. – One Ukrainian man living here in the states is helping his friends across the ocean stay safe against Russian forces.
Alex Misiats spends his days teaching advanced math in the U.S., but for weeks, his heart has been overseas with his mom and Grandma in Ukraine.
“I have an app on my phone which indicates when there’s a danger of an airstrike in my hometown. For the last month it’s gone off about three or four times a day. Every time this alarm sounds on my phone, I call my mom and make sure that she is headed toward relative safety which is the basement,” said Alex.
He says he’s using his time in America to collect resources and support the Ukrainian forces and volunteer fighters like his fellow mathematician friends.
“The government provided some of the weapons, but the government doesn’t have enough protective vests, helmets and drones that make them stay safe,” he said.
Alex went out of his way to donate a bullet proof vest to those fighting in his country. Glasgow Police Department donated six police vests to help out the Ukrainians police departments.
Glasgow Police Department Capt. Jusin Kirkpatrick said, “You know, it’s not much what we did. We’re just trying to do our part. We’re just trying to show that we’re here to help and that’s what we do.”
So, though times are dark and Alex’s home country right now, the thought of Americans wanting to donate and help out brings a little light.
