Decades old dry cleaners closing in Bowling Green

The owner of a Bowling Green dry cleaners is hanging it up after being in business for over nine decades.

Tommy Hinton, the owner of Hinton Cleaners on East 10th Avenue, is closing his shop.

It was established by his family all the way back in 1927.

Hinton, who is 65 years old, says the decision is based largely on his age and the fact that his boiler just broke and it would cost $30,000 to replace.

Anyone who has clothes at Hinton’s is asked to stop by as soon as possible.

Hinton says he’s happy to be retiring, but at the same time, it’s hard to let go. He plans to sell the property and the building on it.

"I’ve had hip replacement surgery and back surgery. It’s hard for an old man to be in 100-degree heat for 10-11 hours a day. It’s just time," said Hinton.

Hinton says he’s still unsure when the official final day will be for his store.
