47-foot bourbon barrel Christmas tree in Edmonson County seeks to win world record

BROWNSVILLE, Ky. – You may have seen Cody and Jon Vincent’s bourbon barrel tree in Edmonson County last year standing at 30 feet tall.

Well, this year, the brothers went bigger and better.

“We had so many people want the tree back this year. We decided we didn’t want to go back to the same size as last year. We wanted to try for something different, something that hadn’t been done before,” said Cody.

This years’ bourbon barrel tree stands 47 feet tall with 450 barrels making up the tower.

The tower took around 300 man-hours to build.

People have travelled from all over the country to see the bourbon barrel Christmas tree both last year and this year.

“We wanted to come down. We’d never seen anything this big before. We’ve seen other barrels set up but nothing this big,” said Ernest Skaggs, a visitor from Elizabethtown.

“I’m amazed by it, just how they were able to assemble it and everything. And the fact that they’re also doing donations for Affordable Christmas, it was a win-win for a little adventure day to come and see,” said Abby Skaggs, a visitor from Elizabethtown.

Next to the creation you will see a donation box set up to raise money for Edmonson County Affordable Christmas, an organization that supplies families in need with Christmas presents.

“They gave the parents where they can come out and pick the gifts for their kids take it home wrap it or they can wrap it there however they want to do. Their biggest fundraisers we’ve helped them put on I should say but we’re just trying to get their name out there is what we’re trying to push for with this,” said Cody.

Cody says next year the bourbon barrel Christmas tree will change sizes once again.

“It will not be this tall again,” said Cody.

Last year, the brother’s raised over $1500 for children.

This year they hope to double that.

Cody and Jon are working to get their creation certified by the Guinness Book of World Records, but that process takes up to 16 weeks to complete.
