2 arrested after alleged pursuit ends with power outage in Trigg County

CADIZ, Ky. (WKDZ) – Two people are facing charges following an alleged pursuit that ended with a power outage on Friday.

According to a report by WKDZ, Cadiz police say they attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 32-year-old Tyler Morton of Clarksville, Tennessee after seeing reckless driving on U.S. 68.

WKDZ states an arrest report says Morton accelerated to 100 miles per hour after an officer attempted a traffic stop.

During this time, authorities say Morton began driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 68 before entering South Road and crashing into a utility pole. WKDZ reports this led to a power outage impacting more than 600 Pennyrile Electric members in Trigg County.

According to the report, Morton reached toward the floorboard of the vehicle as law enforcement approached, where officers later found a loaded pistol.

During a vehicle search, WKDZ states authorities say they found around 150 ecstasy pills, a loaded AR-15 rifle, a digital scale and marijuana.

In addition, WKDZ says Morton was found to have been convicted of prior charges and was driving on a suspended license.

Morton was charged with fleeing police, speeding, first-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, operating on a suspended license, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and using restricted ammunition during the commission of a felony.

A passenger, identified as 18-year-old Paris Clark of Cadiz, was arrested as well.

She faces charges of complicity to fleeing police, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of alcohol by a minor and public intoxication.

Both individuals were transported to the Christian County Jail.
