18-year-old volunteer firefighter killed after head-on collision in Butler County

MORGANTOWN, Ky.- An 18-year-old young man was killed and a 72-year-old man was sent to the hospital after a collision Sunday afternoon in Butler County.

According to Kentucky State Police, the crash occurred just after 1 p.m. in the 5500 block of Reedyville Road in the Roundhill community.

Police said Paul Hensley, 72, of Hazard, was traveling southbound when he crossed the centerline of the roadway, right into the path of Robert Combs, 18, of Smiths Grove. The vehicles collided head-on.

Combs was pronounced dead on the scene, while Hensley was airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

WNKY has learned Combs was a firefighter with both the Chalybeate Volunteer Fire Department and the Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department in Edmonson County.

The crash remains under investigation.
