GLASGOW, Ky. (Glasgow News 1) – The trial date for 19-year-old Asa R. Howard of Edmonton has been set following a fatal crash last year in Glasgow.
According to a report by Glasgow News 1, Howard is scheduled to stand trial March 16-19, 2027.
Barren Circuit Judge John T. Alexander reportedly stated to Commonwealth’s Attorney John Gardner and Howard’s defense attorney, Ken Garrett, that that “full week is open, and that they had indicated the trial could take as many as four days,” the report states.
In addition, Glasgow News 1 says a pretrial conference is set for December 7, 2026.
Howard was the driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Veterans Outer Loop and North Jackson Highway on October 17, 2025.
At the time of the crash, Howard was 18 years old. Ultimately, three teens in Howard’s car died due to the crash, authorities say.
According to Glasgow News 1, the victims were later identified as 18-year-old Emily Corbin, 17-year-old William T. Moore and 14-year-old Charley L. Fancher.
Howard was formally charged in December on three counts of murder, according to the report.
Howard is additionally charged with three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and one count of first-degree assault. He is currently incarcerated at the Barren County Detention Center on a $750,000 cash bond.
In October 2025, Major Terry Flatt with the Glasgow Police Department stated a preliminary investigation indicated alcohol was a factor in the crash.
According to Glasgow News 1, Family members for Corbin, Moore and Fancher sat in the front row of the courtroom gallery with T-shirts that read, “Their stories matter. Don’t drink and drive. Be wise.”
Wrongful death lawsuit
In addition, Glasgow News 1 says Corbin’s family has “filed a wrongful death lawsuit, alleging illegal alcohol sales and drunk driving contributed to the wreck.”
According to a complaint filed on July 6, Corbin’s father is suing on behalf of the estate of his daughter.
Glasgow News 1 says the lawsuit names Howard, the driver, and Jay Patel, the owner of Ram Leela, Inc., “doing business as South Green Liquors in Glasgow,” as the defendants.
The complaint further alleges that on the night of the crash, Howard, then 18, bought alcohol from South Green Liquors, according to Glasgow News 1.
Glasgow News 1 further says the filing states a liquor store employee checked Howard’s identification “during the first visit but did not ask for ID on the second visit and did not request identification from the other two males on either trip.”
According to Glasgow News 1, the lawsuit states Howard allegedly provided alcohol to Corbin and “other underage passengers while drinking a significant quantity of it himself.”
Following this, Glasgow News 1 states Howard allegedly drove Corbin’s vehicle with five total passengers inside, including the three victims, along with 21-year-old Jabari Sweat and Caden French.
According to a complaint, Howard drove recklessly that night, with the lawsuit further stating Howard traveled through the intersection while he had a red light, while the driver of the other vehicle had a green light.
“Court documents state a blood sample taken about two hours after the crash showed Howard’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.129, more than six times Kentucky’s legal limit of 0.02 for drivers under 21,” Glasgow News 1 states.
According to Glasgow News 1, Attorney Matt McGill of Lowder & McGill in Bowling Green filed the lawsuit, and as of Monday, the complaint says no response had been filed by either Howard or the liquor store, with no court date set.
