Woman arrested after police pursuit in Edmonson County
BROWNSVILLE, Ky. – A woman is facing several charges after a authorities say she led a pursuit in Edmonson County on Friday.
The Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies observed a woman, identified as Ponda Bennett, driving northbound in the middle of Wingfield Church Road, almost striking a deputy’s cruiser head on.
At this time, deputies say Bennett began to flee at a high speed when the deputy activated his lights and sirens.
Bennett was located about a half mile down the road after losing control of the vehicle and hitting a mailbox, deputies say. The sheriff’s office says she then tried to run from the scene and refuse basic commands.
Bennett was taken into custody. Deputies say they found a large amount of methamphetamine, scales and drug paraphernalia on Bennett and in her vehicle. In addition, deputies say she tried to destroy another large amount of methamphetamine inside of the cruiser.
Bennett was transported to the Hart County Jail.
She is charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, second offense (greater than or equal to 2 grams of methamphetamine), drug paraphernalia – buy/possess, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, second-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, tampering with physical evidence, second-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot) and reckless driving.
