WNKY NEWS 40 Weather Reports: Total Lunar Eclipse
Watch The Total Lunar Eclipse Tonight
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- This week stargazers across the country will catch a rare opportunity to see the Lunar Eclipse in its entirety. Between Thursday night and Early Friday, the earth will be positioned between the sun and the moon.
The earth’s shadow will cast a reddish hue on the moon.
“What happens is the sunlight. It passes through the thickest parts of the Earth’s atmosphere, bending around, getting, scattering off that blue light. And its remaining is the, the red light. So that’s why we see this sort of orangish red light, shadowy effect on the moon.” – Maxx Haehn, Observatory Observation Scientist At WKU.
There shouldn’t be many clouds in the way, which will make for a great viewing opportunity. The total Lunar Eclipse begins just before 1:30 AM and will last for about an hour.
