WKU Angel Tree celebration returns for second year

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Tonight on the campus of WKU, students in Greek life made sure to look out for some kids in the community for the second year in a row.

Started by Greek Life Director Andrew Rash, the IFC, Panhellnic, and National Pan-hellenic councils got together to adopt 34 kids from Parker Bennett Curry Elementary, in hopes of providing them with a good Christmas. The various chapters of college Greek organizations at Western bought gifts for their adopted child and wrapped them up tonight for delivery this coming Thursday morning.

John Downing, a graduate assistant who was in charge of the program this year said he grew up in Bowling Green and knows how much this event can impact a child who might not be as fortunate this holiday season.

Amelia Kolb, WKU’s Assistant Director for Leadership & Volunteerism was also in the room tonight, she told News 40 she was happy to see different students come together and get to know each other while also doing some good for the community.

Downing also said in their second year they have 100% participation, with every sorority and fraternity showing up to help out. Downing hopes that even after he moves on from Western this year, Angel Tree is something that will continue for the Greek community for years to come.
