UPDATE: Bomb threat and explosive device cases both cleared at WKU

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Western Kentucky University Police say campus is all clear following concerns about a possible explosive device and separate bomb threat.

Western Kentucky University sent out an alert this morning about a possible explosive device in the area of Cherry Hall on campus.

Following an evacuation of several buildings, WKU determined as of 12:07 p.m. Wednesday that the material found in the initial incident was determined to be construction related and confirmed it posed no threat to campus.

At 12:15 p.m., the WKU PD stated there was a bomb threat via social media in the area of Parking Structure 2. After investigating the situation, the area was cleared by authorities with no threat to campus as of about 1 p.m. Classes will begin at 1:50 p.m. as of this time.

Authorities say the anonymous threat at the parking structure is unfounded and a person of interest has been taken into WKU PD custody.
