WKU Volleyball: Lady Tops “hungry” to get back to best

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – While WKU Volleyball may have posted another 20-win season in 2018, their performance on the court really wasn’t up to par compared to past seasons.

A big factor in that was a team full of young players, most of whom had to go through growing pains.

This season, the team is closer than ever – both on and off the court – and hungry to get back to their best, something they hope equates to hoisting the Conference USA trophy once again at the end of the season.

“Especially for returners, we’re like ‘this is not how it usually is,'” said senior outside hitter Sophia Cerino. “We want to get back to where we were. We want to prove to everybody that we can do it.”

Libero Emma Kowalkowski, the Lady Tops other senior on the 2019 roster, added that the feeling in the locker room is much different at the beginning of this season than it was at this same time last year.

“As a team we just gel really well off the court and on the court,” said Kowalkowski. “Everyone is hungry. We want to get back to that caliber team that we were two years ago. I think everyone has the same goal in mind with that.”

The Lady Tops begin their 2019 campaign on Friday, Aug. 30 as they compete in Toledo’s Blue and Gold Tournament.
