WKU students getting a chance to learn from the best
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The company Canon has a program called “Explorers of Light” that helps bring world class photogrpahers to college campuses, and this week WKU students get a turn.
Simon Bruty, a self made photographer is on the hill for 2 days to give students a master class in visual art. Simon has been a photographer for decades after starting from the bottom. Even with no university schooling, the Londoner was able to work his way up over the years to eventually work for Sports Illustrated.
As a sports photographer, Bruty goes all over the world to shoot games and events, most recently the World Cup which had him in Qatar for 5 weeks. But with all his experience, Bruty is a humble man with a pleasant soul. The well traveled photographer told News 40 that he hopes he “somehow fires them up to have a great career in photography” by coming to Western.
And of course students are all aglow with the professional here hoping to gain some worthwhile knowledge on the craft their wanting to hone. We talked to 3 who were overjoyed to be able to meet him and person and shoot this week’s women’s basketball game alongside him.
