WKU student creates Derby dress for Miss Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Emma Cox has been creating art since she was a child, and this season, she got a big break with a project for Miss Kentucky, Chapel Tinius.

The Western Kentucky University freshman had designed several hats for Bowling Green’s local Derby fashion pop-up shop, Prim and Brim, when Miss Kentucky’s mother reached out to her directly after visiting the store one day and seeing her work.

Cox said this was a great opportunity, and she is excited for Kentucky and the world to see the lily printed dress in theme with the Kentucky Oaks ahead of the Kentucky Derby.

Cox gave out some advice at the end of her interview, saying that, as an artist, you should never box yourself in and should explore as many mediums as you can.
