WKU Player of the Week: Hilltopper volleyball libero Tayler Baron

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – This week’s WKU Player of the Week honor goes to Hilltopper volleyball libero Tayler Baron.

The sophomore earned her first CUSA Defensive Player of the Week award after her role in the Tops’ sweep of Sam Houston last weekend.

Baron averaged 5.25 digs per set across eight sets against the Bearkats, finishing the weekend with a total of 42 digs and seven assists.

She is currently ranked fifth in the league in digs per set and sixth in total digs with 250.

Baron and the rest of the Tops efforts over the weekend helped the program land its 100th consecutive regular season conference win, an achievement that only three schools in the nation have reached.

With Baron being a strong defensive piece for WKU, it opens the door for a strong, balanced offensive attack, something head coach Travis Hudson is a huge fan of.

“ When you have a team that has an elite player or two, then you spend your whole week scheming to try to find ways to slow that kid down. When you’re built like we’re built now, we’re just sitting there waiting, just like what we did against Sam Houston, we hit .424 on Saturday against Sam Houston. That’s an enormous number,” Hudson said. “Let’s stop talking about it, that’s who I said going into the season I was excited to coach, and we just haven’t been healthy enough to do it.”
