WKU Player of the Week: Hilltopper track and field’s Kaison Barton

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Wednesday’s here at News 40 Sports are dedicated to recognizing Hilltopper athletes who have had outstanding performances, and our latest Player of the Week honor goes to WKU Track and Field throws athlete Kaison Barton.

Barton, along with the rest of the Topper track and field team, competed in Bowling Green last Friday and Saturday in the Brent Chumbley Memorial Hilltopper Relays.

The graduate student took part in the hammer throw, shot put, and discus events, but saw his best success in the hammer throw, not only finishing in first, but setting a personal best and program best with a mark of 209 feet and seven inches.

WKU had previously set a top distance of 203 feet back in 2015, but Barton was able to reach that, plus some, last Friday afternoon.

With the stellar performance, Barton earned the best mark throughout Conference USA, the 12th best mark in the NCAA East Qualifying Region, and the 28th best mark throughout all NCAA Division one track and field programs.

Barton was also named C-USA Male Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
