WKU Player of the Week: Hilltopper right side hitter Kaira Knox

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – This week’s WKU Player of the Week honor goes to freshman right side hitter Kaira Knox!

In her first three matches for Hilltopper volleyball, Knox stepped up on offense, seeing responsibility for nearly one-third of the team’s production in the annual WKU Invitational.

Her stat totals from matches against Wright State, Loyola-Chicago, and Drake finished out at 46 kills, 8 blocks and 20 digs.

Knox’s 46 kills not only led her own team but also landed her at second within Conference USA and led to her first CUSA award, being named the league’s Freshman of the Week.

Knox shined for head coach Travis Hudson in her first college action and saw steady improvement from match to match, with 12 kills against the Raiders in the season opener, 13 kills against the Ramblers on Friday evening, and 21 against the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.

Following her WKU debut, associate head coach Craig Bere talked about how big of a role Knox already has on this team.

“ She is just so dynamic. She’s such a talent, you know, she puts pressure on you in every possible way,” Bere said. “She’s attacking out of the back row, which is not something we’ve done in years past, which adds an entire new element for us. Her offensive game is very diverse. She can attack the line, she can go high and hard off the hands, you know, cross court she can apply a lot of pressure there, but she’s also a physical block, which is something that we need out of that position.”
