WKU football practices in Florida for first time prior to bowl game

Boca Raton, FL. – Sunday afternoon, the WKU football team hit the field at Boca Raton High School, home of the Bobcats, for their first Florida practice ahead of the 2024 Boca Raton Bowl.

After finishing the regular season competing in cooler temperatures, the team was greeted with sunny and 70-degree weather conditions.

Entering the bowl preparation, senior running back Elijah Young announced his plans to enter the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft, and he shared how special his time on the Hill was the past couple of years.

Wednesday’s game will be a homecoming of sorts for a few members of the Hilltopper squad, starting with junior defensive back Virgil Marshall.

Marshall has been a mainstay in the Tops defense for the last few seasons, but in 2024, he has competed in just three games due to an injury early in the year.

He graduated from Cocoa High School just a couple of hours north of Boca Raton and shared his excitement to play for a bowl game trophy in his home state.

His defensive backs coach can share the same hometown sentiment, as Da’Von Brown looks forward to coaching at FAU Stadium, the place he competed in as a player for the Owls from 2016-2019.

Brown spoke on how special the bowl environment is for him, with career and family ties to the area.

The Tops now get to leave the practice field and head to the beach for some time to celebrate their season a little more before Wednesday’s meeting with James Madison.
