WKU Baseball falls to Liberty Thursday night
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Baseball (16-14; 4-6 CUSA) fell to Liberty (20-9; 7-3 CUSA) 8-3 on Thursday evening at Nick Denes Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first four innings of play WKU managed four hits, led by Lane Arroyos who had a double and a single, but weren’t able to scratch a run across in the early workings of the game.
- The Flames plated four runs in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead.
- With runners on first and third with one out, JP Acosta reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Reid Howard as he slid under the tag of the Liberty catcher.
- A four pitch walk loaded the bases and Camden Ross lifted a ball into center field to score two and make it a 4-3 game with two outs in the seventh.
- The Flames got back two runs in the eighth with a two-run home run down the left field line.
- Liberty added two runs in the ninth for a five-run lead.
NOTABLES
- With the loss, WKU falls to 16-14 on the year and 4-6 in league play.
- WKU moves to 6-1 all-time against Liberty
- LHP Zack Serup started on the mound for the Hilltoppers on Thursday.
- Serup tossed 4.0 innings, allowing three hits, one run, and one walk with four strikeouts.
- Out of the bullpen WKU used Trey Reinburg, Jacob O’Day, Sam Frizzi, and Conner Wolf.
- Camden Ross and Lane Arroyos each had two hit games on Thursday.
- Ross finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
- Arroyos finished 2-for-5 with a double.
- Reid Howard finished 1-for-3 with a run scored.
