WKU athletics roll out personalized cardboard cutouts to aid in Covid-19 relief

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Covid-19 has had its effect on the world of sports, which is why the Western Kentucky University athletic department has come up with a way to have the toppers show school spirit from afar.

Through the entire WKU Hilltopper basketball and Lady Topper season, anyone can order their own personalized cardboard cutout to sit in the stands. They can be taken or shipped after the season.

All proceeds from these cutouts will benefit the tops together recovery fund, which was set up to offset expenses due to covid-19 through the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation.

WKU assistant athletic director of marketing Olivia Higgins said this plan is a win-win, since it helps offset a loss of revenue, WKU fans get something in return, and it’s a way to bring some smiles to the stands this season.

“People can give it as a gift, they can do it jut for fun, and then knowing that they’re actually impacting the expenses that we’ve had to endure during covid-19, it makes it a win-win type scenario,” Higgins said.
