Winter Arrives In Full Force

A powerful nor'easter has dropped snow and ice throughout the northeast, leaving 70 million dealing with extreme cold and slippery conditions. NBC's Jay Gray reports.

(NBC News) — Thursday’s sunrise revealed a beautiful mess along much of the Mid-Atlantic region and Northeast.

A powerful winter storm, the first of the season, left more than than 70 million dealing with extreme conditions.

In some areas the snow was measured in feet, not inches.

Others were faced with a thick coat of ice, which along with strong winds, has left tens of thousands without power.

Flooding was in issue in some coastal areas, but the biggest problems are a result of all the ice and snow. Some places received more in 24 hours than all of last year.

Bitter cold temperatures are now setting in, which means the snow and ice is going to be around for a while.
