Where to go for a staycation in Metcalfe County

METCALFE COUNTY, Ky. – There are interesting things to do all across south-central Kentucky, including Metcalfe County.

Some spots of interest suggested to News 40 by Metcalfe County’s tourism director, Cathy Nunn, include the Lighthouse Restaurant, Dry Fork Gorge, Barn Lot Theater and Sulphur Well. We went to check out these spots and had a great time.

Barn Lot Theater has been around since the ’80s, starting as an outside theater at Bowling Park, in front of a barn which is where the name came from.

Executive director Kyle Hadley said people come from almost two hours away to watch and act in the plays put on, telling us to see where they used to be compared to now is night and day.

A lot of people seem to love the Lighthouse Restaurant as well, a local favorite eatery offering home cooking for residents and hundreds of tourists who come through over the summer. And while you’re there, you can mosey over to historic Sulphur Well, where the water has an interesting taste to say the least.

Dry Fork Gorge is a beautiful sight as well, with a host of endangered species in the area. News 40 was told that as a protected area, the diversity of life is staggering and surprisingly less traveled though. That area is open from dusk till dawn.
