What trees can withstand strong winds?
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With the storm damage we’ve seen this week, you may have had or seen a tree uprooted.
We spoke to an arborist with the City of Bowling Green Parks, who told us about the different types of trees and their resistance to high winds and tornadoes.
A Silver Maple or Bradford Pear, for example, have defects that would make them more likely to be damaged.
If you’re looking for something good to plant, experts say try a Sugar Maple or White Oak…
“They’re very resistant to storm damage… and those larger shade trees always provide the best benefits in the long run. When you’re planting a tree, if you’ve got room for them in your yard, those are the best trees to plant… those large, big shade trees,” Jared Weaver, arborist/forester with the City of Bowling Green says.
If you have any questions about any trees and whether they are able to withstand damage, Weaver recommends contacting a certified arborist.
