WCSO offers forgiveness for some late vehicle registration
WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – The new system upgrade at county clerk offices is proving to cause some difficulties, and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office wants you to know it is practicing some leniency if you have an expired tag.
County clerks rolled out the new system to Kentuckians about two weeks ago, and ever since then, kinks in the new software program are causing delays. On Wednesday, Warren County clerk Lynette Yates said they are only able to renew January and February tags at this time, while March renewals will have to wait.
Because of this, deputies are planning to allow for some forgiveness in the meantime when it comes to vehicle registrations.
“Law enforcement’s aware of it. We’re working with our county clerks. And so we know this. So people shouldn’t be overly concerned about the fact of getting some type of ticket for, you know, having an expired tag,” Warren County sheriff Brett Hightower says.
In other words, the sheriff’s office understands this time of transition.
Hightower says that this grace period for vehicle registration applies to those whose tags expired in late 2023 or in 2024.
He also reminds Warren County residents that their vehicle insurance and driver’s license information is not a allotted grace period and must be up-to-date.
