Walking in Floyd Collins’ footsteps, a look ahead of the upcoming production
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Ramsey Theatre Company got a rare opportunity.
The director and musical director of its upcoming production of “Floyd Collins” walked in the man’s own footsteps as they toured three important locations in the history of south-central Kentucky’s most famous cave explorer.
The adventure helped the two get a sense of the life of Floyd Collins and the other characters in the musical.
Alan White, director of “Floyd Collins” says, “What they might have thought, what they might have dreamed, what they might have hoped for, that’s the sort of thing that a visit like this to a place where, where Floyd lived can be most helpful with.”
The group visited his homestead, the cave in which he was trapped and died and his final resting place.
Mammoth Cave Park rangers led the tour and shared their considerable knowledge of the events that surrounded his death as well as his passion for cave exploration and opening the natural formations to public tours long before Mammoth Cave became a national park.
Ramsey Theatre Company will start casting the musical this fall with the performance scheduled next year, just days after the hundredth anniversary of his tragic death.
