Hundreds stepped up for Down Syndrome Saturday
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Step Up for Down Syndrome walk Saturday brought out hundreds of people to support those born with an extra chromosome.
It was held at Bowling Green Ballpark. It is an annual event that raises money for Down Syndrome organizations. This is the 21st year of the event.
Before the walk, there was a “soaking chair” similar to a dunking booth, face painting and other activities. The Rockerz dance team performed and the top three fund-raising teams were recognized.
The teams that walked each had a special connection to the event. Tabitha Camp, who was on Team Lucy, explained her connection to the Step Up for Down Syndrome Walk was her sister. She said the walk is important to her because it is a way to show she and others care about people with special needs and those with Down Syndrome.
The final numbers for the walk aren’t yet tallied but more than $70,000 was raised, over 2,000 walkers took part in the event and more than 35 teams registered to take part in Step Up for Down Syndrome. Some of the walkers came from as far as Ohio.
