Volunteers, workers show up for Logan Co. Humane Society

LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – People from across Kentucky came to Logan County this weekend to assist a shelter in need.

Volunteers and workers form the Muhlenberg County Humane Society helped out the Logan County Humane Society Saturday.

This included evaluating kennels as well as brainstorming ideas and plans for what is needed in the future.

The Logan County Human Society has recently come under fire as photos of their conditions were released in December, showing dirty conditions as the shelter continues to suffer from an overcrowding of animals and a lack of help.

Citizens also donated food, supplies and their time alongside the county’s judge-executive.

They say they still need volunteers onsite to help foster animals until a full staff can be hired.

President of the Logan County Humane Society, Julie Martin, said, “This shelter is currently at more than double its ideal running capacity. And when any shelter gets into that type of situation, it becomes very quickly, it’s very easy for it to all spiral out of control.”

Logan County’s judge-executive, Phil Baker, said he is going to court this week to ask for multiple employees.

“We want to fix it, and we’re going to fix it,” he said. “We do have a director hired to take over.”
