UPDATE: Smiths Grove couple accused of abusing infant extradited, lodged in Hart County Jail

MUNFORDVILLE, Ky. – A Smiths Grove couple accused of child abuse has been extradited from Indiana to Kentucky.

According to the Kentucky State Police, 21-year-old Aurora Hamilton and 18-year-old Benjamin Reale, both of Smiths Grove, are charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a victim under 12 and endangering the welfare of a minor.

KSP says Hamilton and Reale dropped their infant child off at a family member’s house in Salem, Indiana, on April 23.

The family member transported the infant to a hospital after observing signs of child abuse. The child was later flown to Norton Children’s Hospital for further treatment, according to KSP.

KSP and ISP obtained arrest warrants for Hamilton and Reale, who were arrested on April 27.

Hamilton and Reale were lodged at the Jackson County Detention Center in Indiana.

According to KSP Public Affairs Officer Trooper Katan Parker, Hamilton and Reale were extradited to Kentucky and lodged at the Hart County Jail on May 8.

The investigation is ongoing.
