UPDATE: Sinkhole repairs underway on Single Tree Way
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A sinkhole has closed Single Tree Way until Bowling Green Public Works can make repairs.
The soil around an older storm drain had started to collapse, making the road sag. The unstable material will be removed and replaced with stone.
The public works department examines about two new sinkholes a week to evaluate if they pose a danger and need repairs. The one on Single Tree was minor.
Nick Lawhon, a geologist with Bowling Green Public Works, says, “I do want to stress that most of the sinkholes that we deal with are just collapses in the soil, not in bedrock like we saw with the Corvette Museum in 2014 or with Dishman Lane in 2002. The vast, vast majority are just soil collapses and do not threaten homes.”
Public works expects the work to be done this week, but it might stretch into next week before the road is open to through traffic.
