UPDATE: Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office rescues dogs during code red at shelter

EDMONSON COUNTY, Ky. – After responding to an animal cruelty case last weekend and rescuing 79 dogs, the Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office is rescuing one of their own.

The animals rescued Sunday in Edmonson County are learning to love life after living in unimaginable conditions.

“I’ve not seen anything like this in my entire life, like I said, the conditions were deplorable, they were not consistent with long term care for these animals, they were all in distress, ” sergeant Tim Jackson says. “I couldn’t imagine these animals would’ve survived much longer in the conditions they were in. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

The Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office found the dogs lying in their own feces and being fed rotten eggs and chicken with undrinkable water.

A rescue mission to remove the dogs from the property and place them at the Bowling Green – Warren County Humane Society began immediately but not before sheriff Vincent had time to think about how a rescued dog could help his community.

“He’s fixing to go back to school, and he is going to be trained in tracking of course, and search and rescue. This is a very rural county. When someone gets lost, you almost have to have a dog to track it, there is so many remote places, and he’s going to be a real asset to our department.”

The sheriff’s department also adopted a border collie as an Edmonson County mascot to visit local schools.

“This dog here will be in the office when he’s not out working, so everybody needs to come and see him. We are blessed to have them, and I’m just happy we could change two of the dogs lives.”

All 79 dogs have been adopted locally and through other states.

The Bowling Green – Warren County Humane Society remains in a code red and is offering adoptions at only $25.
