BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Police say a 2-year-old has died and a driver is facing multiple charges, including driving under the influence, following a weekend crash near Greenwood High School.

Officers say they arrived on scene on Scottsville Road at Cypress Wood Lane Saturday, Jan. 6, where they found one vehicle struck from behind and a single-occupied vehicle against a utility pole.

The Bowling Green Police Department has confirmed the adult driver of the single-occupied vehicle has been identified as 32-year-old Jorge Lopez Iturbide of Franklin, Kentucky.

Police say Iturbide’s vehicle struck a vehicle containing three people, which included an adult driver, a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old.

While on scene, police say CPR was performed on the unresponsive 2-year-old, and the 5-year-old had multiple injuries. Both were transported to a Nashville hospital for treatment.

The adult driver of the vehicle with the two children appeared uninjured, according to police.

On Monday night, police say the 2-year-old died from injuries suffered in the crash.

Iturbide was hospitalized under the watch of Bowling Green police officers before being released and taken to the Warren County Detention Center on a $1,000,000 cash bond.

He is charged with murder, first-degree assault, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree wanton endangerment, no operator’s license and operating a motor vehicle under the influence.
