Unseld eager to take the court as a Hilltopper for the first time
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – This season, former Warren Central Dragon Kade Unseld is looking to take to the court in Diddle Arena as a Hilltopper for the first time.
Unseld redshirted year one under head coach Hank Plona after a leg injury kept him on the sidelines but has made great progress working with the athletic training staff on the Hill.
Although the Hilltopper roster will feature plenty of fresh faces and names, Unseld is one that the Bowling Green crowd is familiar with and his coach is fired up to have him back.
“ In June, Kade was doing everything but playing live, and here these last two weeks are really the first time that Kade’s had a two-week stretch of practice, so he’s rusty and he’s still getting himself back into shape, but he has the right mentality. He’s a winner. He obviously competes,” WKU basketball head coach Hank Plona said. “He’s doing everything in his power to represent WKU and has wanted to do that more or less his whole life.”
Unseld was a star for the Dragons playing under his father Will, guiding Warren Central to a state championship in 2023 and then a year later leading his team to another region title as the 4th Region Player of the Year.
Now that he is on the mend with playing days in his future, he shared how year one on the sidelines was a blessing in disguise and he’s eager to represent the place where he grew up.
“ First off, just had to take it as like a learning curve, just getting to sit back and learn how things ran last year. Just working into it, getting in shape, just getting back used to the speed of the game and stuff like that, just having fun with it,” redshirt freshman guard Kade Unseld said. “Just playing for my hometown, knowing that I’ll have tons of family and friends at every game and just being great with these guys, having a great season. We’ve all gelled together great this quick and just building on that.”
