TVA offers free personalized energy efficiency program
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -As summer temperatures go up, so can your energy bill.
The Tennessee Valley Authority is offering several programs this summer to offer personalized energy saving advice.
These include a DIY home energy assessment and rebates to offset the cost of efficient upgrades.
And the best part? Experts say it’s completely free.
Ashley England, an energy efficiency expert with the TVA, says, “The thing is, it all adds up, and all those homeowners and businesses blasting their air conditioning at the same time during the hottest part of the day, um, you know, TVA is working round the block to make sure that we can serve that need.”
Experts say making a few simple changes can help both your energy system and the power grid.
England also shared the following advice:
- Run large appliances, such as your washer, dryer and dishwasher, in the evening when temperatures are cooler, such as 8 p.m. or later.
- Run ceiling fans counterclockwise in summer, which could make the room feel several degrees cooler.
- Use curtains over windows.
- Raise your indoor temperature on your thermostat as cool as you feel comfortable. England says doing so can save 3% on your bill.
For home energy assessments, experts will visit your home and provide a personal recommendation of how you can best improve the energy efficiency of your home. If you can’t schedule a time to have someone visit your home, you can also take an online efficiency survey.
