Troubled hearts on Valentine’s Day
SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY – Love is a beautiful thing but can leave us in a bad place from time to time.
Of course holidays can be tough for anyone for a variety of reasons, but Valentine’s Day is just a tad different. It’s a time of the year where the focus is solely on relationships. That can be hard for those of us who have lost someone. Whether it be a loss of life or just a loss of connection, if you’ve loved, you’ve bee hurt before.
Speaking with some counselors on the topic of grief, the consensus was that time really does heal, and it’s okay to not be okay. Trying to find different outlets for your feelings is important and getting into groups can help as well.
Sarah Light, owner of Lighthouse Counseling said group talk settings as one of the best ways to sort through your feelings because others there know what you’re going through.
It’s not something that can be fixed over night, but taking things one day at a time and getting into therapy if you or friends might feel like you could benefit from it might be the trick. Light also added in her interview with the station that feelings can be resolved quicker in some people than in others meaning maybe therapy is only needed for two months while some others might need a year or two.
Though we live in a world of instant gratification, Light said there’s no rush on emotions.
