ALLEN COUNTY, Ky. – As of mid-afternoon Friday, Tri-County Electric Membership Corporation says 2,300 of its members are without power.

According to its website, Tri-County Electric serves Allen, Cumberland, Metcalfe, Monroe, Adair, Barren, Clinton and Warren counties in Kentucky and Macon, Clay, Trousdale, Sumner, Jackson, Overton and Smith counties in Tennessee. Locally, many households in Allen County have been impacted by the power outages this past week.

Tri-County Electric says the current outages are a “nightmare scenario for those who have gone all week without power, especially with the frigid conditions and more winter weather on top of us.”

The company says a total of 408 personnel are currently working to restore power. This includes mutual aid crews.

Restoration efforts have transitioned from backbone and mainline repairs to single-phase and secondary service lines, where outages could affect a few members and take several hours to repair, the company says.

Tri-County Electric asks members to be aware of ongoing cold weather advisories with near-zero temperatures and sub-zero wind chills possible overnight.

The company says daytime thawing followed by overnight refreezing continues to cause new outages.

“We will continue to apply maximum effort as our communities recover from the ice storm,” the company says.
