Trailblazer Doctor Takeia Anthony makes history

SOUTH CENTRAL, KY.- It all began with her two driven and athletic parents, when she would do chores, her love for history grew hearing and asking questions to learn more about her family’s history. Takeia tells us with her family and those around her pouring into Takeia, ignited her flame for history.

She says, “I was always interested to know, you know, where the black people and from there I started my journey, so just by sitting at the feet of my great-grandparents, I really learned and that gave me hope and it inspired me. So keep fighting.”

Takeia’s fight and desire to learn more and do more didn’t stop in the classroom, it also impacted those around her. Her friend Nicole DeFreeze shares how growing up with Takeia and being friends with her impacted her life.

Nicole says, “Inspiring. Motivating ourselves. Like I just said, she’s a go-getter and she has that fight. You know, if you don’t have a fight and you see it in her, she’ll make your fight. Want to come out of you.”

Dr. Anthony tells us with a sturdy support system, she was encouraged, and able to continue furthering her education thanks to the people who motivated and poured into her.

She says, “You know, the friends that you make along the way, we kept each other, you know, on track. And so that’s been super important. It was my time being an athlete that really helped me make it through my doctoral program.”

The inspiring journey of Dr. Takeia Anthony shows women everywhere no matter what obstacle they may face, they can also defy the odds. Her friend Nicole tells us what it’s like to see the transformation.

Nicole shares, “Watching her grow was just amazing. I love how, just because you come from a small town and then you’re African-American, you can do anything. The sky’s the limit. And I think Takeia knew that and she just made it amazing.”

Doctor Takeia Anthony will be recognized for her accomplishments next month by Warren County Public Schools, and News 40 will continue to cover her story.
