The Medical Center at Bowling Green to host online Charity Ball

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Medical Center at Bowling Green will be hosting its annual Charity Ball online this year.

Last year, the ball brought in over 700 guests dressed up for the event to the Sloan Convention Center.

But this year, because of the pandemic, the event will be held online.

The ball is held in an effort to raise money for the Med Center Health Foundation’s community clinic and dental clinic.

At the ball, multiple auctions are held as well.

The foundation provides services to those who may not be able to access it otherwise.

Kathy Smith, the director of annual giving for the Med Center Health foundation, said these are services a lot of people desperately need.

“These people are your friends. They are people that you know that work with you sometimes. Sometimes people just need a little help in between jobs or in between insurance policies kicking in. There is just a variety of people; seniors, I mean, it effects everyone,” said Smith.

Last year, the ball brought in $328,000.

Smith is disappointed about the change, but hopeful donations will still pour in.

“One hundred percent of  that money goes to the clinics so you could see why this year we could not give up. We had to do something. The clinics depend on this annual fundraiser. I know we won’t, may not make that much money this year but we are giving it our best shot,” said Smith.

The ball will be live streamed from bgcharityball.org from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.
