The impact of Bowling Green Public Works
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- In 2008, President George W. Bush emphasized the importance of public works across the United States, and Bowling Green Public Works is proudly answering that call.
The department plays a critical role in everyday life, from snow removal to traffic control. Executive director Andy Souza highlights how public works touches every citizen daily, whether they realize it or not.
Teamwork is essential to their success, as head sweeper operator Tommy Burris describes the crew as a big family working toward a common goal. Their work goes far beyond sweeping streets, also including maintaining roads, stop signs and massive traffic signals.
The city relies heavily on these essential workers, often unnoticed but always vital.
Without public works, as Souza says, life in Bowling Green would feel like “Armageddon.”
Automotive technician David Long notes they even maintain equipment for first responders, from police cruisers to fire trucks.
Their efforts help ensure public safety, keep the city moving and support every other department in Bowling Green. These unsung heroes are the quiet force behind the smooth operation of the city every single day.
