Teen, blinded by sun, sustains severe injuries after crashing into box truck

GRAYSON COUNTY – A teen sustained severe injuries in a crash on Thursday morning.

According to a report by K105, The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Falls of Rough and Leitchfield Fire Departments, EMS, and GC Emergency Management responded to at the intersection of Falls of Rough Road (Hwy 79) and Owensboro Road (Hwy 54) at Short Creek.

When arriving at the scene, agencies located an 18-year-old female trapped in a vehicle.

Firefighters were able to extract the female from the vehicle and EMS transported her to Rough River State Park Airport where she was airlifted to a Louisville hospital for treatment.

According to officials, the female was turning from Falls of Rough Road onto Owensboro Road and was blinded by the sun, causing her to drive into the path of a box truck carrying 2,500 pounds.

The truck driver was transported to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center with a leg injury.
