Take Back the Night raises awareness for sexual assault

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-April is sexual assault awareness month and Hope Harbor invited the community to come out to their annual Take Back the Night event.

The event went virtual for the past two years and the organization was excited to have it back in person downtown at the SoKY Marketplace.

The event is a community festival of inclusion and solidarity against all forms of sexual violence.

They had food trucks, a night farmer’s market, kids activities, music, and entertainment including a drag show. Hope Harbor staff hopes the event opens up the conversation about sexual assault.

“This topic isn’t talked about a lot so having this event in the community gives people that opportunity to see that there are others, that they are not alone as well as there are services that are available and they can find resources that are here in our community,” said Hope Harbor Executive Director Melissa Whitley.

Hope Harbor’s services are free, confidential, and available to all ages of people in the community.
