Suspect in Allen County gas station burglary arrested in Barren County

SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – A suspect in the break-in of an Allen County gas station has been arrested.

According to a release, the Allen County Sheriff’s Office says it responded Friday morning to a burglary at Caster’s, located at the corner of Barren River Dam Road and Meador Port Oliver Road in Scottsville.

ACSO says it also responded to a report of a stolen utility task vehicle at a nearby residence on Friday.

The release states that ACSO detectives, with the assistance of the Barren County Sheriff’s Office, identified the suspect as 33-year-old Brian Purnell and located him at a residence in Barren County.

ACSO says the stolen utility task vehicle and items from Caster’s were recovered at the scene.

Purnell was arrested and was lodged at the Barren County Detention Center.

Purnell is charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition of a gift card $1,000 < $10,000, third-degree burglary, and first-degree possession of a controlled substance, 2nd offense (methamphetamine). He was also served an arrest warrant.

The South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force, Scottsville Police Department, Barren County Sheriff’s Office and the Kentucky State Police assisted the Allen County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.
