BLOOMFIELD, Mich. (WCAU) – Police say a suspect is dead after a vehicle rammed into a Michigan synagogue Thursday before shots were reported at the scene.

According to a social media post by the Bloomfield Township Police Department, no students or staff from Temple Israel synagogue in Bloomfield, Michigan were injured during the incident.

At this time, police say there are no active threats to the community. The suspect’s identity has not been released.

This update follows after WCAU reported FBI director Kash Patel said agents had arrived on scene for an “apparent vehicle ramming and active shooter situation” at Temple Israel synagogue.

Police say Bloomfield Hills Schools went into secure mode out of precaution, with no known threats to Bloomfield Hills Schools at this time.

Temple Israel is a Jewish synagogue that has a preschool and a large congregation, according to WCAU.

According to WCAU, officials say the suspect breached the synagogue’s facility by “driving in through the doors before engaging in gunfire by the security facility.”

Officials further stated the car caught on fire after “something ignited” in the vehicle, WCAU states, with one individual found dead in the vehicle.

WCAU says the local sheriff stated a member of the security team was hit by the car and went to the hospital for treatment.
