Stone Crest residents prepare to fight zoning change

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Residents of one Warren County neighborhood are preparing for a meeting with the City-County Planning Commission to discuss a possible zoning change for farmland right next door.

A trucking company is attempting to build in what is now farmland just next to the Stone Crest neighborhood, and residents of the area aren’t happy.

Some neighbors say the noise and traffic the change will make would affect their property value as well as their quality of life.

“The whole reason I moved into this area is because of the quietness to it,” said Larry King.

On the other hand, the company would provide jobs and economic advancement to Warren County.

Both the trucking company and the neighborhood have hired lawyers to handle the issue.

The planning commission will be holding a public hearing to discuss the potential zoning change at 6 p.m.  Thursday at the City Hall.

Ben Peterson, the executive director of the commission said the purpose of the meeting is to give both sides the chance to be heard and to recommend a decision to the Bowling Green City Commission for the final say.

“Planning commissioners will hear all of the evidence from both the applicant and the neighbors at the public hearing on Thursday and then they will make a decision in the form of a recommendation that will then be forwarded to the Bowling Green City Commission and they will have the final say,” said Peterson said.
