State police investigating officer-involved shooting in Powell County

STANTON, Ky. – Kentucky State Police is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Powell County.
KSP Post 8 says the Irvine Police Department contacted the post to investigate an officer-involved shooting that began in Estill County and ended in Powell County on Saturday afternoon.
KSP says its initial investigation shows that IPD conducted a traffic stop on a Trailblazer on KY 82 in Estill County. The operate failed to stop and a pursuit began.
Officers pursued the vehicle on KY 82, crossing into Powell County. The SUV turned onto Little Brush Creed Road, where the operator lost control and struck a snowbank.
KSP says officers approached the vehicle and the suspect allegedly possessed a handgun. Officers issued commands to the suspect to drop the handgun. The suspect did not comply.
During the incident, an officer discharged their weapon, striking the suspect in the shoulder.
The suspect, still armed, exited the vehicle and fled into the woods.
Officers set up a perimeter, began negotiations, and the suspect later surrendered to police.
KSP says the suspect, Sommer L. Arvin, 44, of Irvine, was treated for injuries at Clark Regional Hospital. She is charged with operating on a suspended driver’s license, Fleeing or Evading Police (motor vehicle), and Wanton Endangerment 1st degree.
The investigation is ongoing.
