SOKY Patriots in need of donations to provide food for Warren Co. students
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A local nonprofit is in need of some extra community support to continue some of the work that they do in the school systems.
At J.R. Wade State Farm, their office, along with some other sites in Bowling Green, are helping out the SOKY Patriots.
The nonprofit organization is working this holiday season to help feed public school kids over the weekend by providing bags of food at-risk youth can go home with on Friday afternoons.
But this year is a little different – they’re having their first Give Your Lunch Money program to help with the rising costs of food.
Unfortunately, food isn’t free, and the SOKY Patriots are feeding over 800 kids a week, totaling almost $3,000 a week.
Despite the money, Tim Allen, president at SOKY Patriots, says he and other volunteers are doing their best to benefit the community.
Allen says on Dec. 28, you can donate either to Feeding America for Warren County or SOKY Patriots directly to help them continue to support the children of Warren County and Bowling Green.
“So far, since SOKY Patriots took this program over in 2020, we have not had to say ‘No, we cannot provide that to you, because we just don’t have the funding.’ But we’re to that point,” Allen says.
