SoKY Ice Rink opens for winter season

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The winter weather can only mean one thing – it’s time for ice skating in downtown Bowling Green.

SoKY Ice Rink opened for the season on Friday night as hundreds flocked to the only ice rink in town.

This is the fourth year the rink has been set up at SoKY Marketplace.

Planning for the rink installation begins month in advance by the Warren County Public Works and Parks and Recreation departments.

The 6,000 square-foot rink accommodates up to 175 skaters at a time, and for those who aren’t the greatest ice skaters, crates are available to help you upright.

The ice rink is open until January 5, and its hours of operation can be found here.

The cost of admission is $12 for adults, $10 for children (under 12) and kids four and under get in free. Skate rental is included with your ticket.

Roughly 14,000 to 16,000 guests visit the local ice rink every year, and its opening really gets everyone in the community in the holiday spirit.

“People ask me all year whether we’re going to do the ice rink again,” said Nikki Koller, assistant director of Warren County Public Works. “The closer we get to it, they’re like, are you going to do it? Are you ready? It’s really fun to see all the community so excited to see it back.”

New to the ice rink this year is a variety of events, including a Princess Night, Harry Potter Night (Dec. 5) and a Coca-Cola night with Coke floats and a visit from the Coca-Cola Polar Bear.
