BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The 2025 high school football season officially wrapped over the weekend and an array of athletes and coaches from South Central Kentucky were recognized for their achievements on the field this year
Representing district two, three standouts were named the Player of the Year in Hudson Gumm (3A), Davis Chaney (5A) and Kayden York (6A).
Gumm threw for 1,558 passing yards for Glasgow in his senior year and helped lead the Scotties to their first undefeated regular season since 2011.
Chaney led Greenwood in scoring this season with 1,067 rushing yards for 18 touchdowns. Averaging 10.8 points per game, the Gator ranked No. 11 in scoring in Class 5A.
York, South Warren’s star running back, also topped the charts in scoring for his class, coming in at No. 3 in 6A with 150 total points in 2025.
The senior scored 21 touchdowns for the Spartans for a total of 1,008 rushing yards. He played a huge role in South Warren ending the season as the No. 6 rushing team in the state.
Also earning recognitions in district two, Bowling Green’s Zach Jordan was named Lineman of the Year for 5A, and South Warren’s Malik Bulter earned the honor for 6A.
On the staffing side, three head coaches were named Coach of the Year in district two.
Josh Robins earned the nod for Class 3A after leading the Butler County Bears to their winningest season since 2022.
Greenwood’s Will Howard was named the 5A Coach of the Year after a 7-5 season for the Gators who won their first playoff game in three years.
Last but not least, after leading the Spartans to an undefeated regular season and finishing as the state runner-up, head coach Brandon Smith brought home the 6A Coach of the Year title.
After ending the year on Kroger Field over the weekend, he reflected on the school’s first campaign in a new class.
“ This senior class has laid the foundation,” Smith said. “We were very excited to get in 6A. That’s the best football and the biggest football. You’ve got the big dogs up here at the top and if you’re a competitor, you like that. These guys, like I said, laid the foundation for future groups to have success in 6A.”
