Sims reflects on first WKU touchdown, team turns page to matchup with Toledo

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The WKU football team is coming off a win over North Alabama that propelled the team to 2-0 start early into the season.

The matchup saw a handful of incredible performances on both sides of the ball, and for a few Hilltoppers it even marked their first touchdowns at WKU.

Seconds into the fourth quarter, quarterback Rodney Tisdale Jr. connected with wide receiver Marvin Sims for a score.

For Tisdale, it was his first passing touchdown with the Tops, and for Sims, his first touchdown overall with WKU, and he recently looked back on that special moment.

“ It felt good, just all glory to God. I just want to thank the coaches for putting me in the right position, the quarterback for throwing the perfect ball for me to just walk in the endzone and the [offensive] line was absolutely fabulous on that play,” Sims said. “I just felt good going in there, you know, all the preparation that I had put towards it, it just all felt like it came together.”

All the special moments against the Lions culminated to a 55-6 win, but head coach Tyson Helton has already changed his focus and has his sights set on the Toppers’ first road test of 2025 against Toledo.

WKU leads the nation in points, touchdowns and passing yards up to this moment, which has put a lot of eyes on this program, but Helton feels it’s important to not dwell on what’s already happened.

“ You’re only as good as your last game, and so we turn the page after every game. It’s good to know what the team is capable of doing, but we have to keep the pedal to the metal,” Helton said. “We have to continue to go make the plays that are there to be made. Again, we will be tested in every way this week, but you’re only as good as your last game and we have to keep an edge about us.”
