Sigma Nu Fraternity on interim suspension at WKU amid ongoing investigation

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Sigma Nu Fraternity at Western Kentucky University is reportedly on interim suspension amid an ongoing investigation into an incident at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park.
Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc. released the following statement Monday regarding the situation:
“Sigma Nu Fraternity is aware of an incident at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park on Sunday, November 24, 2024, in which two Western Kentucky University students who are members of the Eta Rho Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity at WKU were injured in a fall. The Fraternity is grateful for the work of Russell County first responders in responding to this incident. The Fraternity is in close communication with WKU officials, student leaders, and alumni advisors. Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded at the Virginia Military Institute in 1869. More than 260,000 men have become members of the Fraternity. The Fraternity’s Mission is “to develop ethical leaders inspired by the principles of Love, Honor, and Truth; to foster the personal growth of each man’s mind, heart, and character; and to perpetuate lifelong friendships and commitment to the Fraternity.”

Jace Lux, director of media relations and university spokesperson at WKU, confirmed Sigma Nu Fraternity is on interim suspension. Lux further stated the following:
“The university continues to prioritize the well-being of all members of the WKU community and will cooperate fully with the investigation.”
On Dec. 3, News 40 reached out to trooper First Class Jonathan Houk, public affairs officer for Kentucky State Police Post 15, to learn more.
Houk stated at the time that KSP had initiated an investigation into the incident and could not provide further details.
On Monday, Jan. 27, Houk stated there is no new information to release at this time.
