Settlement reached with Warren County Regional Jail after alleged incident involving Muslim woman

WASHINGTON – A lawsuit filed last year involving the Warren County Regional Jail by a Muslim woman alleging deprivation of her religious rights has reached a settlement.

Among multiple allegations, a release by the Council on American-Islamic Relations states the woman was allegedly forced “to remove her hijab” and take a booking photo without it.

Thomas Kerrick, the attorney representing Warren County, which includes the Warren County Regional Jail, confirmed they have reached a settlement, and right now, he says the details are not yet available for release.

CAIR filed the lawsuit last year in November.

“We welcome the settlement of this case and hope correctional institutions nationwide will take note and implement policies that protect the religious rights of all those in custody,” stated CAIR Legal Fellow Aya Beydoun in the release. “The rights of Americans do not stop at the jailhouse door.”
